Maternity dresses are seasonal, so make sure that if you see a bargain in the sales, you will be wearing the dress in the right season. Sometimes we spot a bargain and forget that it will be a couple of months before we need the extra room that a maternity dress will give us, by which time the weather has grown warmer and the thick knitted woollen dress is inappropriate. Buy in the sales, but buy for the now.
Pretty print dresses look good in all seasons. They can be worn during the day in summer, or for evening wear in the winter. Blues, reds and greens are favourite colours. Team them with coordinating tights and your comfiest pair of heeled shoes. Or go for a print tunic and leggings, which look fabulous with a pair of flat shoes or pumps.
A wrap dress is a good option for day or night wear. It will drape perfectly over your tummy to show off your bump. Choose one made from soft and flowing fabric. Add some glitzy accessories and some dramatic eye make up for evening.
Skirts
Maternity skirts are a must-have if you love to wear skirts. There is only so much time before your everyday skirts will become uncomfortable, and you’ll start to feel the pinch. If you have some loose blouses in your wardrobe coordinate your maternity skirt to match. Use your regular jewellery and bags to dress it up for evening wear.
Maternity skirts have a clever panel that allows you to move freely, keeping you and baby comfortable. Team a pretty floral skirt with a plain sweater, or top, for day time wear. Add some silver jewellery, a big chunky bag and a pair of matching tights, or go for a pair of clashing tights for a funky outfit.
Maternity lingerie
There’s a good selection of maternity bras. You may need to change your bra size during your pregnancy. If you’re breast feeding you’ll need a good supportive bra with easy access. There are underwired bras and some soft support bras that you may find ideal for the later months. If you have evening dresses or summer dresses that are strapless, go for a strapless maternity bra. It will support you while giving you the shape you want.
