4 Minute Jeans YouTube
TRANSCRIPT
Im Pascal Anson. This clip is about jeans. What does £4 buy you? In a supermarket you can buy a couple of chicken breasts. In a fancy bar you can buy a pint of export larger. On a forecourt you could buy 3 litres of petrol, or you could buy a bunch of flowers, nice box of chocolates. Or you could by a return train journey for about 15 mins. The other thing that £4 buys you these days is this pair of jeans. I bought this pair of Jeans at Tescos. I was curious to see what they were like. I don’t think there is any information about where they are made but I’m guessing someone somewhere far away made these jeans. Whoever made them have taken good care and effort to make them. The stitching is really good, the seams are not coming apart and the denim seems to be a good weight. The problem is not the quality. The problem is the fit. These Jeans are my size, 32-34, and as you can see they just look absolutely terrible. I thought I would try some things from my wardrobe to see if I could make them look better.
The fact is they just look ugly. I was given this remedy that seems to work on any pair of trousers. Start off by laying your ugly pair of jeans flat. The next step is to get your best fitting pair of jeans. Lay them over the top so that the outside seems match exactly. Once everything is properly matched up, draw with a pen or pencil along the inside seems. Oh yes, and thanks to Howard for this trick. He is from the design company - Your Studio. From these particular jeans we are going to be taking almost 5" out of the leg. Remove the top pair of jeans. At the fly make sure both lines match up. If you like you can pin the fabric close to the lines. Then we are ready for the sewing machine.
When you get to the fly area I think it’s good to go over the same area once or twice just to reinforce it. Don't cut out the seam it gives an extra structure to the jeans when you wear them. The other thing is you can take the stitching out when fashions change. I’ve been using strong upholstery thread for this alteration, tie the ends off and then you remove the pins. That’s all there really is to it, turn the jeans back over the right side out and try them back on. Oh they look a lot better, £4 and 4 minutes on the sewing machine.
